Getting Credit for Your Internship

Internship Process in a Nutshell

  1. Fulfill all academic pre-requisites for your major. (If you are an Open Major, contact the open major Internship Coordinator, James Burton.)

  2. Secure an internship for yourself (this process is similar to obtaining a job: you must find, apply and receive an offer). Please view our resources page for additional assistance in locating an internship. Department Internship Coordinators may have a list of internship opportunities as well.

  3. Contact your department internship coordinator. If you don't know who that is, look under your department's information on the Department Internship Coordinators List.

  4. The Department Internship Coordinator will then lead you through the rest of the internship process: signing necessary forms, registration and applicable course work. As you finish the internship you may be required to complete an exit survey about the experience.

Student Responsibilities

The student's first responsibility is to ensure that they have met all of the department's prerequisites before seeking and obtaining an internship. Most students locate internships through their department's internship office or on their own by pursuing a course of action similar to that of a job search. Once the student has secured an internship, he or she is responsible for contacting the department coordinator to initiate proper paperwork for the internship process. The student needs to have the experience provider complete the Master Internship Agreement if the university does not already have a signed agreement on file. To determine if the university has a signed Master Internship Agreement on file, open the current Experience Provider Database.

The student must also complete the Student Agreement and register. To obtain credit, the student must abide by the expectations outlined in the course syllabus.
